THE MICROPLANETHE MOST USEFUL GADGET OF ALL TIME!
(see Waitrose Food Monthly, November 2008)
Waitrose Food Monthly recently asked an all star panel of food experts including Jamie Oliver, Raymond Blanc and Prue Leith to vote for the gadgets, gizmos and utensils they can't live without. And top of the list - well, top after the humble wooden spoon, came the Microplane! Ahead, no less, of such culinary icons as the Kitchenaid Mixer, the Magimix and the mortar and pestle.
"It changed my life" said Thane Prince, head of Aldeburgh Cookery School.
And indeed, look closely these days at chefs on TV when they're grating ingredients - whether it's parmesan, ginger, lemon peel or even garlic - and inevitably you'll find that they are using a Microplane. One chef has even described the Microplane as 'the best invention since the wheel'!
